One Session a Week Isn't Enough
Intermediate for boys and girls aged 9 and up. Wednesdays 5pm at NCIE Redfern. The midweek session that keeps them improving.
Your kid is 9, 10, 11 or 12 and basketball has stopped being just a Saturday thing. They practise in the driveway. They watch highlights. They want to be good at this.
Here is what the kids who pull ahead at this age all have in common: they touch the ball more than once a week. Kids in rep programs train two or three times weekly. A single session — one class, or one club training — keeps a kid ticking over. It rarely moves them forward.
That is what Wednesday is for. A midweek Intermediate session that stacks with their Sunday class, their club training or their school comp — so the week has two real touchpoints, not one. Same coach, same standards, midweek timing that works around everything else.
What makes this different
Built to stack with the rest of their week.
Wednesday 5pm doesn't clash with weekend comps, Sunday classes or most club trainings. It is the second session that turns one basketball day a week into a real training week.
A coaching methodology that creates real results.
Most programs teach skills in isolation. We teach kids how to use them. Every session tests the fundamentals under real pressure in real games, so what they learn on Wednesday shows up on game day.
A 12:1 kid to coach ratio. Every kid gets coached.
We turn bookings away to keep the ratio tight. Small groups mean real feedback, real attention and real development. Your child will not get lost in a crowd.
A typical Wednesday
Every hour is planned. Here is what to expect on the day.
Session starts on the dot. Dynamic warm-up and footwork.
Skill development. Advanced ball handling, shooting mechanics and passing under pressure.
Tactical work. Offensive reads, defensive positioning and transition play.
Live play. Everything we just worked on goes straight into a real game.
Debrief. What worked, what to work on before Sunday.
Meet the coach
James has spent over five years developing young basketball players through the critical pre-teen years. He understands what kids this age need: real challenge, honest feedback and a coach who treats them like developing athletes, not little kids. The same coach runs the Sunday Intermediate class — Wednesday and Sunday build on each other.

Common questions
What parents usually ask before booking.
This is exactly who Intermediate is built for. Kids on school A, B or C teams who love basketball and want to get better but have no extra training outside of school or their local comp. This fills that gap.
Foundations (ages 7+) introduces the game. Intermediate (ages 9+) builds on that base with more advanced skill work, tactical concepts and competitive 3x3 play. The intensity and expectations step up to match what this age group is capable of.
Yes. From Term 4 the Development class is called Intermediate. Same Sunday 3pm slot, same coach, same focus. The new name just describes the level better.
That is the pathway. Intermediate builds the skills, game sense and confidence that rep coaches look for. We cannot guarantee selection but we give your child the best preparation to put their hand up when the time comes.
Yes. From Term 4 Intermediate runs twice a week: Sundays 3:00-4:00pm and Wednesdays 5:00-6:00pm, both at NCIE Redfern. Enrol in one or both days.
Yes. Everything we teach is principles-based. Decision-making, reading the game, spacing, using skills under pressure. It all transfers regardless of the team, the system or the role your child plays. Parents regularly tell us they see the difference on game day.
Yes. Intermediate is open to boys and girls. We also run girls-only classes on Saturdays if she would prefer that environment.
Comfortable clothes, basketball shoes (or runners) and a water bottle. Please bring a basketball. We have a few spares but not enough for everyone.
Sunday sessions start at 3:00pm and Wednesday sessions at 5:00pm, on the dot. If you arrive late your child can jump in as best they can, but we recommend arriving a few minutes early.
