Where Good Players Become Real Players
Basketball development for boys and girls aged 10-12. Sundays in Redfern.
Your kid is 10, 11 or 12 and they have been playing basketball for a few years. They love it. But something is shifting.
The rec league feels too easy. They are not being challenged. They are coasting through games without learning anything new. But the "elite" programs you have looked at are intense, expensive and built for kids who have been in rep since age 7.
So your kid is stuck in the middle. Good enough to want more. Not plugged into the system that gives it to them.
Kids in rep programs get extra sessions every week. Your kid gets a comp game and maybe a team training. Development gives them that same opportunity. An extra session every week focused on refining skills and basketball IQ so they actually improve, not just play.
What makes this different
A coach who gets this age.
At 10-12 the game is changing and so is your kid. They need a coach who challenges them but does not crush them. James has spent over five years working with this age group. He builds players who think for themselves, back themselves and grow on and off the court.
A coaching methodology that creates real results.
Most programs teach skills in isolation. We teach kids how to use them. Every session is structured so the fundamentals get tested under real pressure in a real game. Your kid learns to make decisions, read the play and perform when it counts. The skills they build here show up on game day, not just at practice.
12 kids max. Every kid gets coached.
We turn bookings away to keep the ratio tight. Small groups mean real feedback, real attention and real development. Your child will not get lost in a crowd of 30 kids with one overwhelmed coach.

Every hour is planned. Here is what to expect on the day.
Session starts on the dot. Dynamic warm-up and footwork.
Skill development. Advanced ball handling, shooting mechanics and passing under pressure.
Tactical work. Offensive reads, defensive positioning and transition play.
3x3 live play. Everything we just worked on goes straight into a real game.
Debrief. What worked, what to work on before next week.
What parents are saying
"James has been a wonderful basketball coach for my son and his team over the past few years. We have found James to be super encouraging and motivating and it's really helped develop my son's confidence. He has a great balance of teaching discipline whilst also keeping the game fun and engaging."
"My son has been taught by James over the last five years in a variety of different settings, ranging from private lessons, to group skills coaching and team training for the Northern Suburbs Basketball Association. From young beginners on their first dribbling drills to guiding a team through challenging technical concepts, James displays a strong depth and breadth of knowledge, and conveys it to his students in an empathetic manner. A through-line in James' coaching is self-sufficiency: getting the student to think through their basketball challenges and guiding them to a solution, rather than giving the answer, or drill, or technique change upfront. This methodology has helped my son be a more rounded basketball player (and a more thoughtful kid). I thoroughly recommend James to raise your child's, or your game."
"My boys in year 5 and year 7 have been training with Coach James in both private and team basketball training for several months now. Coach James is very capable of structuring the training sessions tailored to the boys' developmental needs. Timely feedback during the game, training or encouragement afterwards are always there. While being passionate to the game with good energy, he is composed and always presented himself in a calm manner. In short, Coach James is fantastic and will help aspiring basketball players to approach the game in the right way."
Meet the coach
James has spent over five years developing young basketball players through the critical pre-teen years. He understands what 10-12 year olds need: real challenge, honest feedback and a coach who treats them like developing athletes, not little kids. His focus is building players who think for themselves and compete with confidence.

Common questions
What parents usually ask before booking.
This is exactly who Development is built for. Kids on school A, B or C teams who love basketball and want to get better but have no extra training outside of school or their local comp. This fills that gap.
Foundations (ages 7-9) introduces the game. Development (ages 10-12) builds on that base with more advanced skill work, tactical concepts and competitive 3x3 play. The intensity and expectations step up to match what this age group is capable of.
That is the pathway. Development builds the skills, game sense and confidence that rep coaches look for. We cannot guarantee selection but we give your child the best preparation to put their hand up when the time comes.
Yes. Everything we teach is principles-based. Decision-making, reading the game, spacing, using skills under pressure. It all transfers regardless of the team, the system or the role your child plays. Parents regularly tell us they see the difference on game day.
Yes. Development is open to boys and girls. We also run a girls-only Advanced class on Saturdays for girls aged 10-14 if she would prefer that environment.
Comfortable clothes, basketball shoes (or runners) and a water bottle. Please bring a basketball. We have a few spares but not enough for everyone.
Sessions start at 3:00pm on the dot. If you arrive late your child can jump in as best they can, but we recommend arriving a few minutes early.
