A Space Where She Belongs
Girls-only basketball for ages 4-6. Saturdays in Redfern. Fun first, always.
Most girls-only sport programs do not start until age 8 or 9. By then, 80% of girls already feel like sport is not for them. The window to build that identity: "I am a girl who plays sport": is right now, at 4, 5 and 6. Before the self-doubt creeps in. Before she decides she is "not sporty". Before her friends stop playing and she follows.
Rookies Girls Only exists because early matters. A positive first experience in sport can shape how she sees herself for the next decade. We built this class to make sure that experience is the right one.
What makes this different
Girls only from day one.
Not a mixed class with a "girls welcome" sticker. Built for girls, run for girls. Every drill, every game, every interaction is designed for how young girls learn and connect best.
Movement first, basketball second.
At 4-6 the goal is not crossovers and three-pointers. It is coordination, balance, spatial awareness and confidence in her own body. Basketball is the vehicle for all of it.
12 girls max. No exceptions.
We turn bookings away to keep the ratio tight. Your daughter will not get lost in a crowd of 30 kids with one overwhelmed coach.

Cool-down. High-fives and "what did you learn today?"
What parents are saying
"James has been coaching my 12 year old daughter for two terms and has already made a real difference to her confidence and skills. He is genuinely invested in her development and takes the time to support her growth on the court. That care shows clearly in the way she plays now, with more confidence, consistency and belief in herself."
"Coach James has not only helped my daughters improve their basketball skills, but also instilled confidence, discipline and a strong sense of teamwork. His coaching style is encouraging and highly motivating, creating an environment where students feel supported while still being challenged to grow. With his help, Kelly has improved significantly in her team performance this term and Ruby has become a crucial part of her team."
"We've had a fantastic experience with Inner Game Basketball and Coach James, the owner. Both of my sons have been training with him for a term now and will definitely continue. My older son also attended basketball camp during school holidays with James and absolutely loved it. It's been great to see how engaged and excited he is after each session. Coach James brings so much passion and energy to the game and it really shows in the way he runs his program. He creates a positive, encouraging environment while still focusing on skill development and improvement. Highly recommend Inner Game Basketball for any kids who want to build confidence, skills and a genuine love for the game."

Common questions
What parents usually ask before booking.
Girls-only creates a different energy. Girls are more likely to try new things, take risks and speak up when they are not competing with boys for attention. Research shows 24% of girls specifically want more girls-only sport options. Our coed Rookies class (Sundays 2pm) welcomes boys and girls.
Shy girls thrive here. We keep groups small (12 max) so no one gets lost. The environment is warm, encouraging and pressure-free. Most shy kids are high-fiving the coach by week three.
Not at all. Rookies is for complete beginners. We start with movement, coordination and fun. Basketball is the vehicle, not the prerequisite.
Comfortable clothes, runners or basketball shoes and a water bottle. Please bring a basketball. We have a few spares but not enough for everyone.
Yes. Parents are welcome to stay and watch from the sideline. NCIE has seating and a cafe if you prefer to grab a coffee.
Sessions start at 1:30pm on the dot. If you arrive late your daughter can jump in as best she can, but we recommend arriving a few minutes early.
